The Impact of the Lukolela People on the Congo River Environment
The people of Lukolela arrived in the first stages of humanity. They have always used the river as a source of water for themselves and their cattle, for drinking and to wash in. They have used the river as a source of food through fishing. The impact of their activities on the river and its wildlife appears to be minimal and sustainable. However combined with effects of rest of humankind there are now signs that the river and its wildlife are being significantly damaged as had been shown by the reduced number of fish in the river. This situation is not desirable and it would be preferable if humankind used the river in a sustainable way and tackled global warming. This would allow humankind to work with nature for the foreseeable future for the benefit of the human race and the benefit of nature including the world's rivers and wildlife.
